An urgent appeal for Nathaniel Domingo Cobangbang

On the feast of Saint Teresa of Jesus, 15 October, Fr Paolo Miguel Cobangbang shared the wonderful news that his father, Nathaniel, had recovered sufficiently from his illness to be discharged from hospital in the Philippines.

His doctors have given their approval. His medication and follow-up consultations have been arranged. After an anxious period of illness and treatment, Nathaniel is finally ready to go home to his family and continue his recovery.

But there is one heartbreaking obstacle.

Medical statement of account detailing patient fees and related charges, including total sales, discounts, and outstanding balance.

The family faces an outstanding hospital bill of ₱1,550,306.01 — more than one and a half million Philippine pesos. According to Fr Paolo, approximately half this amount must be settled before his father can be discharged.

The family is seeking assistance from government agencies, but the financial burden remains overwhelming.

Fr Paolo, a religious who has embraced the vow of poverty, now finds himself in the painful position of having to beg for help on behalf of his own father.

His words are particularly moving:

“I trust in divine providence. I have always felt the guiding hand of the Lord most especially in this difficult time of our family. In abject humility, I have to beg for alms.”

There is something deeply touching about a son who has given his life to the service of God now appealing to the generosity of the faithful so that his recovering father may return home.

Fr Paolo has already given thanks to God for his father’s recovery. Now he entrusts this remaining difficulty to divine Providence, invoking the intercession of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Saint Teresa of Jesus, Saint Joseph, Saint Michael the Archangel, Saint Philomena and Saint Nicholas of Tolentino.

The faithful have an opportunity to become instruments of that Providence.

No contribution is too modest. What one person cannot provide alone may become possible through the combined generosity of many.

Our Lord reminds us:

“Amen I say to you, as long as you did it to one of these my least brethren, you did it to me.” (St Matthew 25:40.)

A father has been given the blessing of recovery. Let Christian charity now help bring him home.

May God reward every act of generosity, however small, and grant Nathaniel a peaceful and complete recovery.
